WHAT SHOULD I WEAR? Casual, cool sports wear is the order of the day. A light sweater may be needed for eveings. It is not appropriate to wear "bathing suits" to town - remember , "no shirt, no shoes - no service". The same applies for the Golf Course. Dress as you would at home (when it is hot) and you'll be very comfortable in any situation. · Telephones - use only the phones that say Telemex (Telefonos de Mexico). International phone service is available at many Ladatel phone booths. You Must purchase a Ladatel phone card. They are available at money exchanges and some small shops. For International calls dial 001-area code-number - 5 pesos will give you approximately 5 minutes of long distance. Local calls require last 7 digits - Calls to Cabo San Lucas are considered local calls. There are some Internet Cafes, where you can pick up and send your email for a nominal fee. ***PHONES THAT USE CREDIT CARDS ARE VERY EXPENSIVE*** |

· Transportation - bus service is most economical and runs from San Jose to Cabo San Lucas to La Paz. The bus station is near the highway on Valerio Gonzales street, but you can catch a bus at any stop along the highway. Have small change ready. There is also urban bus service from the hotel zone to downtown. Taxi's in San Jose cost about 40 pesos from hotel zone to downtown. Always set your price before you get in! The fare to Cabo is approximately $30.00us. Car rentals are fairly expensive. Perhaps check at home and make arrangements. · Side trips - Santos (about 1 ½ hrs) is a very quaint town to visit. Nice old church, some crafts and two very nice Italian restaurants. Hotel California has been recently renovated and re-opened. A must see. La Paz is a 2 ½ hr drive. Leave early as most shops close for siesta (1:30- 4:00). Be back before dark as the cattle on the road make for very dangerous driving. Buena Vista -great windsurfing. Los Barilles - offers an excellent restaurant, Tio Pablo's, for lunch or dinner-great pizza. A nice drive and you can stop at the zoo in Santiago on the way back. Be sure to buy popcorn in Los Barilles first so you can feed the animals. · Banks/Currency/Exchange - Banks Open week days 8:30 - 11:30 For Currency Exchange. Most bank machines operate in English and Spanish and work on Visa and Mastercard. ATM is at Bital or Banamex in San Jose and Banamex in San Lucas. ATM machines usually have the best exchange rate for both the U.S. and Canada. Most stores will exchange U.S. but if you use pesos there is no concern with the exchange rates. The Baja money exchanges are all over and are usually more convenient than banks. The difference in the rate is not enough to worry about. American Express office is beside Bital bank on the way to downtown San Jose. They usually have the best exchange rate for American Express Travellers Cheques. Doctors/Dentists - They are wonderful - we will recommend
the following as they speak English: · If "Montezuma" hits, try Floratil or Imodium from any pharmacy (inexpensive) don't buy at home as it costs a fortune. Chances are you won't need it anyway. · Hospitals - Any taxi driver can take you there "pronto" Hopefully we've touched most bases. Let us know if you learn of something you think we should know. |
